Second Phase of Secure UD Scheduled
On April 25, IT will implement phase two of Secure UD training, a cyber security awareness program for employees, with the release of seven additional modules. If you haven’t completed phase one training yet, you will receive an email reminder from securingthehuman.org to do so. Phase one modules will be available until April 22. There are plans for a third set of modules to be released in September 2016. Further information is available from UDaily.
Deadline to Update Security Settings is April 26
The deadline for UD employees to update their security settings is April 26. The University will retire the use of PINs for faculty, staff, and students this spring, to improve the way we access our online UD accounts. To change your security settings, log into My UD Settings: UDelNet Security Update.
When you update your settings, you will need to create a UDelNet password that contains at least eight characters, if you don’t already have one. You also will need to select and answer security questions that will make it easier to verify your identity (should you ever need to reset your University password), and you need to review your contact methods (e.g. phone numbers).
More information on the security updates is available on UDaily and IT’s site.
Two-Factor Authentication Soon Required for VPN
Chances are that your bank requires you to use two-factor authentication (2FA) to verify your identity before you access your accounts online. Like some banks, the University is implementing the use of 2FA on a number of services to provide extra security on your account. At the University, 2FA requires that you use your UDelNet ID user account and password and a numerical code to gain access to your information. Effective June 15, 2016, the University will require that everyone who uses the virtual private network (VPN) use 2FA.
To enroll in 2FA, visit http://www.udel.edu/it/help/2fa/. When you enroll, you will set up how you want to receive your code. Google Authenticator is the recommended way to receive your code but other options exist such as a phone call. If you have questions, contact OET.
App of the Month: TextGrabber + Translator
Do you have printed text you need to share with others? Do you need to translate text into another language? ABBYY TextGrabber + Translator is the answer. In addition to saving you time, TextGrabber + Translator offers increased accessibility to printed text. Just take a photo of printed text with your iOS or Android device to digitize text. Once digitized, you can translate the text into more than 90 languages, adjust font sizes, use Apple’s VoiceOver (iOS only) to listen to the text, and copy text to your clipboard.
We usually like to focus on free apps but believe TextGrabber + Translator is well worth the money. It is available on the App Store for $4.99 or Google Play for $9.99.
